Optimize Your Energy (& Life!) with the Moon  ๐ŸŒ”๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒš

Hi Friends! You're probably familiar with the Sun changing astrological signs every 30 days. For example, we're currently in Cancer season! Each month brings new energy and qualities. I love how the traits of the Sun sign often complement what happens collectively during that month or 30 days. For instance, July 20-August 20 is Leo season. Leos love having fun, being the center of attention, going to parties, being creative, and taking leadership (among many other things!). Do you ever notice how in late summer, many of us are more social and engage in parties? Maybe a coincidence, maybe not! Itโ€™s almost like we all embrace our inner Leo, whether itโ€™s our personal Sun sign or not.

Did you know that the moon also changes astrological signs? Instead of every 30 days like the sun, the moon changes signs every few days! The farmers' almanac uses the moon's cycle to optimize plant growth, tides follow the moonโ€™s ebb and flow, and womenโ€™s menstrual cycles are linked to the moon. Our behavior and energy patterns must be linked to the moon at some level, and we can align our energy to its flow by being aware of what it's doing! Thereโ€™s no denying it: the moon is a powerful force!

There are 3 key elements about the moon I use to understand collective energy, create personal intentions, and focus on tending certain aspects of my life: the moon phase (like new moon, full moon), the moonโ€™s astrology sign, and something called the moon "void of course." Letโ€™s explore all three!

#1 - Moon Phases (repeats every ~29.5 days):

Most of us are likely aware of the different moon phases, but we may not always know how to tailor our energy to make the most of them. Personally, I usually just pay attention to new moons and full moon phases.

  • ๐ŸŒšNew Moon: Chill out, set new goals (think, don't act yet).

  • Waxing Crescent: Take tiny steps.

  • First Quarter: Time for action, push through challenges that arise.

  • Waxing Gibbous: Refine plans, be patient.

  • ๐ŸŒFull Moon: Peak energy! Celebrate, let go of what you don't need. Do the THING.

  • Waning Gibbous: Be grateful, reflect.

  • Last Quarter: Surrender, forgive, declutter.

  • Waning Crescent: Rest, release, recharge.

#2 - Moon Signs (changes every few days):

We can build on the moon phase by knowing what astrological sign the moon is in and, therefore, what energy or areas of life are most supported at this time. For example, if we have a New Moon in Virgo, that might support us in setting new goals around personal wellness habits.

  • Aries: Be bold, take initiative, start new things. (Think warrior energy! Great for working out!)

  • Taurus: Ground, focus on comfort, money, and self-care. (Think cooking a decadent meal, having coffee with a good friend.)

  • Gemini: Learn, socialize, brainstorm. (Donโ€™t be alarmed if you find yourself juggling three projects and taking up needlepoint!)

  • Cancer: Nurture, focus on home, family, and emotions. (Can be great for tending to plants/pruning and even getting a haircut yourself.)

  • Leo: Express yourself, get creative, be confident, be seen! (Put the outfit on and go out!)

  • Virgo: Organize, focus on health, routines, and cleaning. (The work may be boring, but itโ€™s the work that makes the changes. Go to the gym!)

  • Libra: Harmonious, focus on relationships, beauty, and balance. (Plan a romantic weekend away.)

  • Scorpio: Intense, deep emotions, let go. (Get the crystals and journal out and vibe to your emotional music playlist.)

  • Sagittarius: Adventurous, travel, learn, big-picture thinking. (You may find yourself down some You-Tube rabbit holes or saying yes to a getaway with friends.)

  • Capricorn: Practical, focus on career, goals, and structure. (Discipline is your friend today; get strategic about career and financial goals.)

  • Aquarius: Innovative, connect with friends and community. (Could be fun to play with AI and meet up with a friend about co-hosting an event together.)

  • Pisces: Dreamy, rest, art, spirituality. (Break out the watercolors, take a beach walk.)

#3 - Moon "Void of Course" (VoC):

This is when the Moon is "drifting" between influences, meaning it's leaving one sign but not quite yet in the other. It is important to avoid starting new things like projects, agreements, or important messages โ€“ they might fizzle. This time is best for: Resting, reflecting, wrapping up tasks, meditating, journaling, and decluttering. Don't force outcomes during this time!!

Here is a link to the moon void of course for Eastern Time for 2025. I also use this to figure out the moonโ€™s astrological sign placement.

Below is the Void of Course Calendar for July. This is how I would personally โ€œreadโ€ the energy over the July 4th Holiday. Starting Wednesday, July 2nd at 3:30 pm, the moon is void of course. The void doesnโ€™t end until Friday, July 4th at 5:33 AM when it enters Scorpio.

I would probably try to wrap up any big projects or at least not start anything new once Wednesday afternoon hits. Wednesday afternoon and Thursday, I would mostly focus on clearing and organizing and getting ready for the holiday weekend. I would try not to get caught up in anything new. On the morning of the 4th, because the moon is in Scorpio and can sometimes be a bit more intense or emotionally intense, I would try my best to do grounding practices or journaling in the morning, especially if I know it is going to be a busy day or I will be with a lot of family and friends. I might even predict what might come up emotionally over the next couple of days and work through it so that I can be more present during fun events. I would also just remind myself that for whatever reason, I might be extra emotional today, and to not worry too much about that! Once Sunday night hits, things will clear up, and a lighter energy of Sagittarius will enter around 6 pm, and we might breathe a sigh of relief.

What I could see happening is after some time away from work and the โ€œday to dayโ€ over the holiday weekend, you might actually feel refreshed and inspired come Sunday evening. You might even have a different perspective on a heavier emotional situation that has been bothering you. You may have been around people that may have inspired you, connecting with loved ones may have made you feel better about your personal situation, or maybe you learned something new about yourself. The Sagittarius moon might swoop in to open your heart and to dream a little bigger about the life you want to continue building. And this aligns with the moon waxing, getting more full. Itโ€™s a time of steady expansion.

The moon can be an amazing resource to help optimize your energy so that you can continue to live an aligned and full life! ๐ŸŒ™
